Hands down, Queenstown is one of the most beautiful cities I have ever been to. Nestled on the shore of the placid Lake Wakatipu under the shadows of to the towering Remarkables mountain range, I don't think there's a single home in the whole city that doesn't come with a million dollar view. The city itself is clean and modern and offers so much to do. Queenstown is known as The Adventure Capital of the World, and for good reason,
Skyline Luge
The Skyline luge was invented in New Zealand and now has 6 international locations, we have been to 3 of them and this is by far the most scenic. It is a blast for kids and adults as well! You take a gondola ride up to the top of the mountain where the luge track is and a smaller lift will take up at the bottom of the track. I would recommend getting the multi ride tickets because one time isn't enough! But seriously, the view alone is worth the price of the ticket.
Jet Boat Tour
For an adrenaline rush, you have to take a jet boat tour! There are a few different options, we did the Kawarau River with KJet, but the Shotover River is a popular one too. It was seriously such a blast as the fly down the river and turn on a dime! Even Kate and Prince William did it on their tour of New Zealand, so no excuses. I think Jason's face says it all.
AJ Hackett Bungy Jumping
And if you still haven't gotten your adrenaline fix, you have to bungy jump off the Kawarua Bridge, the birthplace of bungy jumping! I was soooo close to doing it but chickened out and totally regret it. But I did get to cheer on my cute friend who was brave enough to make the leap.

Lake Wakatipu
Or for a more relaxing day, I would recommend hanging out at Lake Wakatipu. Rent a paddle board, kayak or even an aqua bike, or just grab some fish and chips and hang out on the shore while the kids play.
Glenorchy
The road to Glenorchy curves above the banks of Lake Wakatipu and making that 45 minute drive as the sun was setting and the water was as still as glass was one of the most beautiful drives I've ever taken. It's worth a trip there just for the drive alone! But while you're there check out the Funyak tour where you jet boat up the Dart river then float down the crystal clear waters on an inflatable kayak.
Arrowtown
Located about 25 (beautiful) minutes out of Queenstown is the charming town of Arrowtown. It was once a gold rush city and also has a claim to fame as the filming location for the Ford of Bruinen on Lord of the Rings. Stroll down the streets admiring the cute shops and be sure to buy some homemade fudge from the Sweet Shop. Check out the museum where you can rent or purchase a gold mining pan then try your hand at panning for gold in the river. Explore the Chinese Settlement where the miners lived, grab a bite to eat at Dudley's Cottage Cafe (gold panning equipment available here also) and take a stroll along the Arrow River trail (the exact location for LOTR).

Moke Lake or Lake Hayes- Scenic and peaceful lakes off the beaten path, great for walking, cycling or just hanging out for a picnic
Lake Cruise- take a cruise across the stunning Lake Wakatipu
Kiwi Bird Life Park- get up close and personal with the iconic New Zealand Kiwi bird
Hiking trails:
Queenstown Hill Time Walk- take in the view from the summit of Te Tapunui (3 hr return)
Tiki Trail- instead of taking the Gondola, try hiking for those iconic aerial shots of the city. It's a challenging but rewarding hike!
Kelvin Heights Peninsula Lakeside Trail- follows along the edge of Lake Wakatipu surrounded by historic farmlands and some of the most scenic residential areas in New Zealand
Where to eat in Queenstown:
Perky's Floating Bar - for a unique experience, they offer only drinks but you are more than welcome to bring in outside food
Taco Medic-if you're looking for tasty and casual this is the spot
Fergburger- an iconic Queenstown burger joint, good burgers but expect a line
The Bathouse- fine dining and stunning views
V Know- always fresh, specializing in NZ entrees
Where to Stay:
I would first recommend checking Airbnb, they have some great options in the area. Book A Bach is NZ's version of Airbnb and you can find more options there. If you prefer a hotel I would recommend:
Coronet View Apartments and Bed and Breakfast- for great views of Lake Wakatipu
Crowne Plaza- location! location! location!
The Lodges- centrally located, great value
